Prof. Vasile-Ion MANTA, PhD

Vasile Manta, born in 1962, received the Electrical engineering degree in 1986 from the Polytechnic Institute of Iasi (since 1990 “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi), Romania, in the specialization Automation and Computer Engineering. In 1993 he received the Diploma in physics from the “A. I. Cuza” University of Iasi and PhD degree in physics in 1998.

From 1986 to 1989, he was research engineer at the Institute of Computer Technology, branch Iasi. Since 1989 he is with the Technical University of Iasi, where he became a Professor in the Department of Computers in 2006 and PhD supervisor in Computer Engineering and Information Technology in 2007. He had three PhD joint doctoral agreements, two with Technical University of Vienna and one with University of Eastern Finland. He was invited professor Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (2011), University of Eastern Finland (2015), Technical University of Vienna (2017). Since 2012 he is member of The National Council for the Attestation of University Titles, Diplomas and Certificates, commission “Computers, Information Technology and Systems Engineering”.

Prof. Manta is associated member of the Romanian Academy of Technical Sciences, section Information and Communication Technology – Computers and Telecommunications.

His research of interest includes: computer vision, quantum computing, image processing, artificial intelligence, neural networks. He is the author or coauthor of more than 170 papers published in various scientific journals, refereed conference proceedings, and contributions to books.

Prof. Manta teaches Fundamentals of Computer Science, Digital Image Processing, Computer Vision, Graphics Processing Systems, Quantum Computing.

Prof. Manta is an Associate Editor-in-Chief of the System Theory, Control and Computing Journal and he is also in the editorial boards of several other journals. He was chair, IPC member and invited sessions organizer at many international conferences in the field of computer science.

He has expertise in academic management (dean of the Faculty of Automatic Control and Computer Engineering (2008-2012, 2016-present), chancellor of the faculty (2004-2008), Executive Director of the Research Centre „Intelligent devices and software” 2005-2011)) and in project management, as director or responsible of several research national and international grants and educational projects.
